As Internet-connected TVs grow in popularity, those platforms are going to need more apps. Panasonic has launched a new developer portal for its own cloud-based TV service, Viera Connect.
Previously known as Viera Cast before a moniker change at CES 2011, Viera Connect available in approximately 100 countries with HD entertainment applications focused on music, sports, gaming, fitness, and video-on-demand services. Some of the more well-known, existing examples come from MLB, Pandora and YouTube.
Additionally, some of the Internet-connected features that have transferred over from Viera Cast include Netflix, Twitter and Skype, the last of which is touted as a selling point on certain displays that sport webcams.
To clarify, all apps are based in the cloud and do not download to Viera Connect-enabled televisions and Blu-ray players.
This portal is targeted towards IPTV application developers, who will be provided with “market leading streamlined processes” for speedier production and deployments.
Interested developers can learn more about and register to access the portal immediately.
