PARC to submit Content-Centric Networking code to Android

Palo Alto Research Center, best known as PARC, will submit some of its Content-Centric Networking code to Android.

In an interview, PARC CEO Mark Bernstein said that Content-Centric Networking (CCN) is one of the research group's big bets. In a nutshell, CCN aims to create a more efficient means to distribute content around the Internet. Under CCN architecture, content would be secure at the packet level, intelligent cached and localized based on demand.

Today, copies of content are replicated in many locations to speed up download times. CCN would save on bandwidth and improve network performance.

Bernstein added that CCN would work with existing TCP/IP architecture.

Samsung and PARC are already teaming up on next-gen content distribution, networking and communications technologies on mobile platforms. Now PARC is upping the ante a bit with a contribution to the Android project.

    all i want to know is, will this Content-Centric Networking (CCN) FINALLY Make the worlds ISP's Turn On/stop filtering off the Generic Multicast protocol for the masses of end users, wanting to actually use and Multicast stream their video to family and friends as a single upload stream to everyone at once that is tuned in to the multicast port as it were, to save vast amounts of bandwidth, time and effort, instead of being forced by most ISP's to use antiquated and massively wasteful Unicast.
