Apple's Mac App Store saw more than one million downloads, has more than 1,000 apps and sparked a lot of debate. But will the Mac App Store be a long-term success?

For me that's an open question. If anything, Apple has created another distribution channel for Mac developers. However, Apple will now get 30 percent of the revenue and pricing will come down. I also wonder about piracy and support.

In the long run, I'm curious to see how the Mac App Store fares. Initially I'm skeptical, but can't put my finger on why that's the case. Apple's App Store made sense right away because it made sense from a distribution perspective. With the Mac App Store, I'm stuck on one question: Why? I get it from Apple's perspective. Not sure what the customer gets.

What's your take?
