Report: Apple still investigating iOS 5 battery problems

Report: Apple still investigating iOS 5 battery problems

Summary: This battery problem for iOS 5 devices is still an ongoing issue.

SHARE:

Battery-related problems on devices updated to iOS 5 seem to continue for another day. Yesterday it was reported that that Apple’s latest iOS 5.0.1 update released yesterday wasn't actually fixing the iPhone battery drain problem for everyone.

If you need any further evidence about the ongoing problem, just check out Apple's discussion boards, which are overflowing with comments on the iPhone 4S battery life thread.

So what's going on now?

AllThingsD reports that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has released the following statement about the current situation:

The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices. We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.

It's brief, but at least Apple has commented publicly on the issue if the report is accurate.

Until Apple releases more information -- and hopefully an update that does the job for everyone -- check out these helpful tips for saving the battery on iOS 5-based iPhones.

I have yet ti see a issue with battery life. Maybe i am one of the lucky majority. Why does it seem, to me anyways, that no matter how insignificant the issue is; it gets magnified when the company is Apple. For nearly two decades Windows was famous for the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD), yet it was considered acceptable. If OS X locked up 10% as often as Windows has in the last 10 years, I could see it. Through my experience it is more like 1% as often. In other words for every 1 lock up for OS X there are100 lockups on Windows. Why all the hate for Apple? Is it all a case of sour grapes?

@Rick_Kl Well it could be the reputation for perfection and the premium price for the best hardware, or the fact that some people just want to rub their noses in it after all the bragging they had to put up with!

@Rick_Kl: The biggest player always gets the most columns inches. Apple is the biggest in smartphones (so gets the most flack), Microsoft in desktops (so gets the most flack).

It's also for the reasons Leopards says below. According to Apple they can do no wrong, except when they do.

@Rick_Kl Windows? Showing your ignorance huh? The only time My Windows has had an issue in the past ten years was when my power supply fan died and the system started to overheat but I think any system would do that.

@Rick_Kl Why does everything need to be an us vs. them issue at ZDNet? How do you get from Apple phones to Windows-powered desktops? This is like when a politician from party X has a scandal, and someone has to complain that no one talked enough about the scandal from that person in party Y and effectively try to change the subject to party Y's problems.

There's no Apple "hate" in this post. It's a factual statement that Apple is investigating a problem, something Apple users might actually find useful to know. Ironically, you will *engender* Apple hate by reacting like this, taking any mention of a problem with an Apple product as an "attack" or "hate" that needs to be countered, in your mind, by posting what clearly is an attack on a competing company which has nothing to do with the subject.

Do you see that you're causing the very thing you're complaining about?
