Sling Media is garnering the kind of consumer attention that TiVo has received over the years. Instead of time-shifting, Sling Media focuses on place-shifting with its Slingbox, which brings the TV experience (cable TV, TiVo, satellite, etc.) to a PC, laptop or Windows mobile device over the Internet. Prior to the Churchill Club event, "Video goes Internet--the future of what you watch," I did a podcast with Sling Media CEO Blake Krikorian. We discussed the Slingbox phenomenon, competition from big guns like Sony, copyright and fair use issues, expanding the platform to the Mac and mobile platforms, opening up the box to developers and his company's secret sauce for delivering TV content across an Internet that revels in variable bandwidth.
