Just what consumers need. A $50 replacement for a .29c light bulb. Perfecto!
@BitTwiddler - It's not about how much the bulb costs to buy, it's about total cost of ownership - incandescant bulbs cost about $550 including purchase price and electricity, LEDs cost about $150 - Hmmm ... which is truly cheaper?

And if you want to dim it

You're still stuck using a device designed for incandescent bulbs, because all of the devices on the market work very hard at imitating them.

Which wouldn't be quite so bad if there were any movement towards LED-aware standards for new construction. In the meantime there's no way to control color temperature, intensity, etc. that take advantage of the properties of lighting more advanced than Thomas Edison, and we're still putting up buildings with those limitations from the ground up.

Right-on man,

First off, major LED lighting is still in its infancy. For one thing the heat output on those things is nuts. Also, the prices are rediculous. Like BitTwiddler said, a $50 replacement for a $.29 is not practicle, especially when the life on the LEDS is nowhere near 173 times the life span of a normal incandescent lamp. Maybe in 10 years.
How does this stack up against the latest energy effecient bulbs?

Nice trick there, showing us a 40W-equivalent bulb in a 60W socket...
