Sony restores PlayStation Network: Will you play on?

By | May 14, 2011, 6:22pm PDT

Sony has started to restore its PlayStation Network, which was whacked by hackers who made off with customer data. Can Sony recover?

In a series of blog posts today, Sony outlined its restart process. You can update your firmware and change your passwords. Sony has also started restoring the PlayStation Network in regions.

This rollout of services will take time, but the reputation hit will last well beyond Sony’s restoration process.

For some folks, the PlayStation Network debacle has already been enough. Peter Cohen notes:

More than three weeks into the outage of Sony’s PlayStation Network, some PlayStation 3 owners have had enough and are beginning to trade in their consoles. The outage appears to be having an effect on the resale value of games, as well.

Sony has apologized after making a series of communications and security screw-ups. Is that enough though?

Here’s the roundup of the Sony PlayStation outage.

I've already played 3 hours of Black Ops since it came back online for me at about 4 in the afternoon. Business as usual.

@Peter Perry Either I'm off of my meds or you are off of yours because I've been agreeing with you quite a bit lately... I'm not planning on going back to the PSN either... nor my SOA account if they get that mess straight.

Sony has a ways to go. At this point I am not even sure what or if they have done anything substantial to keep my information safe.
