Sprint is partnering with Orange's Business Services unit to extend Sprint's global machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity beyond the United States to 180 countries.

Sprint's customers are promised to see the following results besides just extended M2M connectivity beyond domestic borders:

  • A single, dedicated entity managing global M2M connectivity requirements with support for local implementation and contract negotiation
  • Faster project deployment and cost control when extending M2M capabilities globally
  • An integrated M2M supply chain process (i.e. A one-stop shop and a single provisioning and support process for each country in which a company operates.)

Sprint's vice president of international wholesale, Yijing Brentano, explained the thought process behind this venture in prepared remarks, noting that the telecommunications company "recognizes that its customers compete in the global economy and they expect their processing, monitoring, diagnostic and distribution applications to work seamlessly wherever their business takes them."

For reference, Sprint already offers domestic as well as global M2M services through its Emerging Solutions Group.

Orange, on the other hand, has more than 200 experts dedicated to its M2M strategy along with a global network that provides IP access in 220 countries and territories, supporting over 2.5 million active M2M connections.

Orange will be offering up M2M-specific GSM SIM cards for deployment, a "feature-rich" online portal for Sprint customers to order and manage SIM cards, and customer service for these SIM cards.
