Today’s�the big day for Sun’s 1pm PT launch of OpenSolaris, the open source version of the company’s Unix operating system. Apparently, there’s more in store for the festivities than just a straight launch announcement. According one of Sun’s public relations outfits (Sun has so many, we can’t keep track of them all), "There will be a cool special guest and some additional news." Let us know if you have any idea what else is up, or just want to take some wild guesses.

David Berlind, formerly the executive editor of ZDNet, holds a BBA in Computer Information Systems. Prior to becoming a tech journalist in 1991, David was an IT manager that was responsible for the design and deployment of custom developed software, local and wide area networks, PC-Mainframe connectivity, corporate technology standard-setting and end-user training programs.
