T-Mobile teams with 7-Eleven for new prepaid phone

Summary: The convenience of 7-Eleven is going in a more tech-friendly direction thanks to the retail chain's new partnership with T-Mobile USA.

Many 7-Eleven retail locations now carry one of T-Mobile's prepaid handsets, the LG GS170.

Don't get too excited about this phone, but it will get the job done. The GS170 is a basic feature and flip phone with a high-resolution color display, a VGA camera, MP3 ringtone capability, and Bluetooth 2.1.

7-Eleven will be selling the device for $29.99, which is a bargain compared to the suggested retail price of $69.99. (But if you actually pick up a two-year contract for this device, it would only be $9.99. Not exactly worth it, but just saying...)

Being that it is prepaid, there is no contract required with T-Mobile as customers can sign up for T-Mobile's No Annual Contract Monthly 4G plan. For $50 per month, that includes unlimited talk and texting as well as unlimited data without any overage charges. The first 100 MB of consumed data will be delivered on T-Mobile's 4G network.

To get buyers in 7-Eleven stores as soon as possible, T-Mobile is offering a special promo for the entire month of August. The LG GS170 price will be half-off with the purchase of a $50 airtime card at 7-Eleven stores.

However, if you couldn't tell by the fact that this deal is with T-Mobile USA, you're likely only going to find the LG GS170 at 7-Eleven locations stateside. For reference, there are more than 8,800 7-Eleven stores in North America, and approximately 42,500 locations in 16 countries worldwide.
