Solar, less than half of the cost for residential solar is the actual panels, a grid tie inverter is as much as the panels and the installation labor is then again the same as panel cost. Still greatly more expensive than grid power and they do wear out.
FYI Texas has as much wind energy installed as the next 3 closest states combined, including CA, look it up.
