    Smart meters, I have been paying an extra charge every month for 3 years. A few months ago my house was installed. The long and short of it is that I am paying to reduce the utility companies cost (no meter readers) and in the near future will most likely be subject to time of day cost. Then again there are the articles on ZDnet about how using the smart meters the utility can tell what DVD you are watching......

    Solar, less than half of the cost for residential solar is the actual panels, a grid tie inverter is as much as the panels and the installation labor is then again the same as panel cost. Still greatly more expensive than grid power and they do wear out.

    FYI Texas has as much wind energy installed as the next 3 closest states combined, including CA, look it up.
