Tibco Software, which targets financial firms, on Monday launched Tibco FTL, a low latency messaging system that claims to have intra-host communication latency of 384 nanoseconds.
Quibbling over nanoseconds may not be a big deal to most folks, but to Wall Street firms it matters. Tibco says its Tibco FTL has an interhost communication latency of 3.1 microseconds.
The company previewed Tibco FTL in May 2010 as a messaging middleware system. Tibco FTL leverages Intel’s Westmere architecture and technologies like QuickPath as well as in-memory tools and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Tibco and Intel have are strategic engineering partners. For Intel, partnerships with Tibco allow it to get its Xeon server chips in front of financial services firms.
Tibco FTL’s latency gains are due to a system that allows the application to only get relevant data from a message stream as well as advances in metadata management, transport choices and new APIs.
