Twitter picks up Summify social network aggregator

Twitter purchases Summify and its social media news aggregator, but it's not clear as to how Twitter will be making use of the new product just yet.

Twitter continues to simultaneously beef up its arsenal of solutions while consolidating any type of competition with the purchase of Summify.

Originally founded in Romania, the Vancouver-based startup has a platform that produces a daily summary of what is deemed the most relevant news from your social networks, and then it delivers the aggregated news together to you via email or mobile.

This, of course, includes information from Twitter.

However, how this platform will evolve at Twitter remains a bit of a mystery other than it will become a "more streamlined service" -- whatever that means.

The newsletter in its current form is going to be shut down soon, and the following changes will take place immediately:

  • Summify is removing the ability to make your summaries public (meaning all summaries will be private).
  • Profiles and influence pages are being removed, along with the auto-publish feature.
  • User registration from the website, iPhone and Hootsuite apps will be disabled.

However, the Summify team will be moving to Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
