Following the recent acquisition of TweetDeck, Twitter will be unveiling a new photo-sharing service at the D9 conference in California this week.

According to All Things D, CEO Dick Costolo will introduce the service on Wednesday. However, it is not clear if this is a brand new product or rather just a revamped version of a third-party developer's project such as Twitpic.

Considering that Twitter is trying to prevent third-party developers from making their own Twitter apps and clients now, this next step towards its own photo-sharing hub is not all too surprising. Whatever is unveiled is not going to replace digital photo libraries like Flickr or Instagram.

But Twitter users who share photos often probably don't care about the quality of the snapshot or the service so much as just being able to upload a photo quickly and easily. If Twitter's service can do that better than Twitpic or Yfrog, then the third-party apps will be wiped out even faster.
