Larry Dignan is Editor in Chief of ZDNet and SmartPlanet as well as Editorial Director of ZDNet's sister site TechRepublic. He was most recently Executive Editor of News and Blogs at ZDNet. Prior to that he was executive news editor at eWeek and news editor at Baseline. He also served as the East Coast news editor and finance editor at CNET News.com. Larry has covered the technology and financial services industry since 1995, publishing articles in WallStreetWeek.com, Inter@ctive Week, The New York Times, and Financial Planning magazine. He's a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism and the University of Delaware.

If it's stealing your data then download the source, change it, and compile. If it steals data anyone can look at the code and find out. Also, Google doesn't sell your data, they sell ads that are positioned based on your data.
The best use-case of chrome I
The best use-case of chrome I have found is "Create Application shortcut" in Chrome for a Javascript heavy application like Gmail and then directly open the application from your desktop.

Really cool for heavy javascript app's that really need a new Windows process. Not Cool for browsing Plain old html (POHTML)

There are measurements for real web apps which show that Chrome is not as fast as it is presented in these benchmarks. e.g. this one here: http://www.wrensoft.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2789

... shows Firefox to be faster AND using less memory than Chrome, with Internet Explorer dragging miles behind.
