The new service is touted as a "phone-in-a-phone," meaning both work and personal mobile environments separately on the same device. Users would be able to have two phone numbers and data accounts on the same smartphone.

VMware Horizon Mobile will roll out to interested Telefónica customers during the second quarter of this year. Additional information on pricing and countries where the services will launch will be announced at a later time.

So far, the technology is only going to be available on Android devices, and the Samsung Galaxy S II has been selected as the first handset to support Telefónica's Dual Persona service. Samsung is still expected to offer service compatibility with all of its devices in the coming months.

Stateside, VMware will eventually bring the Dual Persona service to business customers with Verizon Wireless.

So far, LG will be one of the first OEMs to offer mobile devices, tested and ready for use with VMware Horizon Mobile on the Verizon Wireless network.
