Vonage launches Facebook voice app

Summary: Vonage launched a mobile app for Facebook that allows you to call friends on the social network for free as long as they also have the software on their phone.

Vonage on Wednesday launched a mobile app for Facebook that allows you to call friends on the social network for free as long as they also have the software on their phone.

The service is another way to make free mobile calls to friends. Apple’s FaceTime works over Wi-Fi and allows you to connect to others with iPhone 4 users. Skype also provides a means to connect via mobile device sans carrier charges.

Vonage’s spin is that its app gives you voice calling with your Facebook friends on the iPhone and Android device with one click. Since Vonage’s app uses Facebook’s existing friend list there’s no dialing required.

The Vonage-Facebook app is available on iTunes and the Android market, according to a statement.

Separately, Vonage reported second quarter non-GAAP earnings of $12 million, or 6 cents a shre, on revenue of $225 million, up from $220 million a year ago. The company broke even under GAAP.
