Given that at least 10 of the missing laptops were loaded with super sensitive, classified data, the FBI, or any company or agency with a similar problem (somewhere around 600,000 are stolen yearly), is clearly in need of better procedures for maintaining laptops and technology such as Alcatel-Lucent's forthcoming Mobile Endpoint Management System, a 3G wireless-based PCMCIA card that can locate missing laptops via GPS and wipe a disk clean even if the machine is turned off.
