Yahoo said today that it will acquire Dapper, a technology platform company in the display ad creation and optimization business and a Yahoo partner. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The company said the acquisition will accelerate the adoption of Yahoo Smart Ads and will help Yahoo “to more efficiently deliver dynamic and personalized ads for customers across more of our network.” In a statement, Dev Patel, vice president of Advertiser and Publisher Solutions at Yahoo, said:

Yahoo!’s product strategy is focused on creating engaging and meaningful experiences that keep users entertained and informed. Utilization of consumer insights to deliver relevant consumer and advertiser experiences are built into our technology from inception and Dapper’s capabilities will further enhance the experiences we deliver.

Yahoo said it expects to complete the deal by the end of the year.

I very very agree with this statement that Yahoo!s product strategy is focused on creating engaging and meaningful experiences that keep users entertained and ipad bag blog of best sutudeg community the modern education news and informed.
When it is ready to launch (although a specific road map hasn?t been disclosed), Hortonworks will be a primary contributor to the Apache Hadoop platform as well as deploy solutions to enterprise vendors.
Yahoo touts Apache Hadoop as a more efficient and cost-efficient option for processing and analyzing data at ?supercomputing speed.?
Apache Hadoop, one of Yahoo?s more popular projects with developers and even other tech giants such as IBM and Facebook, is an open source platform
that can be utilized for storing and managing big data as well as for the tech trend du jour: cloud computing. For example, the platform has already been integrated by Amazon Web Services.
Other Silicon Valley players/Hadoop fans are already chiming in, including NetApp, which develops storage and software solutions for data storage, has shown favor for HortonWorks on its
Benchmark Capital has already shown interest in open-source platforms with an investment in Red Hat.
Once it is official, Eric Baldeschwieler, formerly VP of software engineering for the Hadoop team at Yahoo, will lead Hortonworks as CEO of the start-up.

Yeah, people love to repeat that "competition is good for users" mantra but it's not true when half of the players in a given market are phoning it in (so to speak.) The half-baked crap being dumped into the market by most of these companies will actually hurt users when they get suckered into buying them. At this point, there are only one or two phones I'd want to own. If there were indeed true competition, with a batch of companies truly trying to compete, not just dumping beta products into the bargain bins in the hopes of snagging the profits of 2-year contracts, then the consumer would benefit. As it stands, not so much.
