Your choice: Motorola Xoom or Apple iPad 2?

Summary: Motorola Xoom has arrived and the Apple iPad 2 has been revealed. These are the two leading tablet contenders of 2011. Which of the two would you prefer to use? Take our poll.

The Motorola Xoom, the first official Google tablet, has officially landed and the early reviews are in. The Apple iPad 2 has been revealed and will shortly be in the hands of the masses. These two are emerging as the top picks in a tablet market that is about to be flooded with innumerable choices. If you had to choose between Xoom and iPad 2, which would you pick?

From a purely technical standpoint, the two tablets are roughly equal. But, the Xoom has a more PC-like feel to it and a much more open ecosystem, while the iPad 2 has a friendlier price and a lot more software apps.

Will technophiles gravitate to the Xoom while consumers buy the iPad 2? Which one will business professionals prefer?       Because it will have (someday) Flash? Or because it has more physical port without adapters needed?

      I mean, one has to be really desperate to choose Xoom over iPad 2.

        @denisrs The problem with Apple is, it's becoming like Microsoft. they have nothing new to offer so they looked at the xooms spec sheet and said lets copy this and that's it. They know that computing is going to the tablets even though they started it with the ipad and that's a good thing, but they can't or don't know to turn it into a serious computer. If you're going to make something to replace the pc or laptop it sure as hell better work like one.<br><br>Also, look at Android phones vs the iphone, Android's now the number one selling smartphone over taking Apple who would've bet this would happen. Android phones just work better for business then Black Berry and surely better then Apple because Apple's iphone is just not a phone for business. It's like there ipad which is still a toy with lots of apps for games and still tied to itunes so you can be entertained. It's like this Android does. So do you Yahoo or do you Google? Now xoom, xoom

        @denisrs - My issue with Apple is one control. They control everything. I like the idea of the open source environment. In political terms, I see apple as the "dictatorial"/central control and open source as wild west free. Both have their challenges; but, I am going to with wild west free as I believe it will enventually mature and be the dominant platform...just like Windows.

      @wmundy Lets forget for a moment that is the same thing the Apple people were saying at the release of the Android OS for Smart Phones and we all know eventually what the boys at Foxconn ( i.e. Apple) had to do to react to that, which proved to be a disaster at its release (1st release of iPhone4 before fix). So I would not be so quick to point out Xoom's lack of Apps as an issue when it has 100 Tablet apps on its 6th day of release and tracking the same as the Ipad was. One more thing to consider, price 599.00 vs. 599.00 ( w/ contract) doesn't seem that much of a difference to me. However, when all of you Foxconn(Apple) fans wish to take your Ipad for the 4GLte upgrade let me know how that goes.

        @CHlittle Yeah the iPhone 4, what a disaster that was. Of course it was the type of disaster that all manufactures wished they had. Oh and the difference in your pricing is you can get an iPad for $100 less than that and even at the same sales prices the Xoom will cost $480-$720 more given a $20-$30/mo data plan. I already have a 4G hotspot I can connect my iPad to, why would I want to yet another data contract in the hopes I can get 4G later after sending it in for the upgrade?

      If Motorola starts selling the Xoom via Amazon at say $500 for the 32gb Wi-Fi Only version, then they capture a big share of the market. Otherwise, the iPad2 is amazingly cheaper and will dominate since it is the established tablet. When can you say that about an Apple product? And, do you really want to buy the Xoom in a Verizon store? ptb

    Apple totally missed the mark on this one. Analyst that are raving about how the iPad 2 is still a step ahead of competitors need to come out of the Apple spell they are under. I am a huge Apple fan and was waiting for the new ipad to offer so much more. All they did was equal their competitors. They scary thing is that Apple failed to innovate this time around.

    • Actually, holding the line on price, and doubling CPU performance, 9x

      graphics performance, adding cameras, is more than enough to keep the competition out. Remember, the rivals are also more expensive.

        @DonnieBoy The competitors, especially the Tegra powered competitors already have better graphics, possibly even better than the iPad 2. Plus dual core chips. The iPad 2 is catch up if anything.

        Don't forget ipad2 has a lower resolution than xoom. Ipad2 can't fit a full 1080p video on its screen. Don't think it can play it at all.

        Every vendor I talk to says their app will be updated to support the Xoom within 2 weeks.

        @DonnieBoy <br><br>That would be true if we had pricing for the Ipad2. What we have are rumors. Anywhere from 499-599$ for WIFI model. The Xoom is 530 at Sams. Plus better specs. Its kinda a no brainer unless you are just that into buying an apple. And using their interface.
