EclipseCon Day 1: NetBeans pickets Eclipse conference

Summary: NetBeans supporters picketed the opening of the Eclipse conference this morning, handing out NetBeans demo disk and bottled water. Inside, registration lines greeted a record number of attendees.

Outside the convention hall this morning, there were a couple of "protesters" on a "picket line" handing out NetBeans CDs and water (I'm not sure what the connection was to the water).

It was all in good fun, of course, and I saw several folks posing for pictures.

Once inside, attendees were greeted by more lines, this time at the registration desk. I'm glad I got in early yesterday to get that over with.

On the way in, guess who I ran into:

That's Bjorn Freeman-Benson (right), conference organizer. He looks pretty relaxed wearing his new Committer's shirt doesn't he? (That's me on the left wearing last year's model.) According to Bjorn, the conference was sold out, with approximately 1500 attendees.

Aside from a few little glitches (like those still-unreadable badges), EclipseCon2006 is off to a good start.
