ItÂ’s official: Apple to ship Mac OS X Leopard on October 26After many delays, Apple is set to finally ship Mac OSX Leopard on October 26. This is a real date, honest. Here, go read the press release yourself.

I wouldn't bother mentioning this except that the launch date has been the subject of so much speculation over the past few months. Even my friend Adam Houghton got in on the action, predicting it would come out on October 9th. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Anyone who bought a Mac on October 1st or later will get a $9.95 upgrade, otherwise the new OSX will set you back $129.

Now tell me again, Steve, how late Longhorn/Vista was?

• Many delays?

How about 1 delay, that had to do with the iPhone?

What other "delays" were there?

• One 6 month delay

How many YEARS was Vista delayed? How many features has Leopard dropped?

You know, we expect trolls in talkbacks, not in the actual article.

• Wow, you Apple zealots sure do obsess about Microsoft!!

How many YEARS was Vista delayed?

So the fact that Vista was delayed somehow negates the fact that Leopard was delayed? Answer this question: Was Leopard delayed, yes or no? Don't mention Microsoft, don't mention Ford, don't mention Greenpeace. Yes... or... no?

"How about 1 delay, that had to do with the iPhone?"

That was the main one of course. Other perceived delays arguably had more to do with endless speculation that turned out wrong than anything Apple did. Still, the development cycle for Mac OS does seem to get lengthier and lengthier each time. I'm sure I wasn't the only one putting off a Mac purchase until Leopard came out.

• Ed's Impressionism

These really are vague and indistinct impressions of Apple. Apparently a lack of
professional experience with the gear makes ZDNet contributors more objective?
More qualified in fact, to prattle on endlessly about Apple than those that do use
it. These critiques have to come from outside the reality distortion field right?
Can't have the "zealots" minding the farm.

Since 2001 Apple users have had the advantages that come from a progressive
and forward thinking OS. With a fraction of the capital and brain trust, Apple has
produced a OS that is, more often than not, seen to provide a markedly better
user experience, and greater productivity than Vista. A 6 month delay in an
iterative version of OSX is being likened to a 4-6 year delay (depending on who
you talk to) for Vista, a major OS overhaul. I think the end results have spoken for
themselves.

Ed, Im going to ask the same thing of you that I have of Ed Bott, Adrian Kingsley
Hughes, and David Berlind. Apple has provided me with 7 years of consequence
free, and extremely productive computing. Exactly what have you done for me
lately?

Please tell me why I should give a flying function about what you think based on
the misinformed pot shots you've taken in the past. I'm eager to know.

You could always just stop reading his blog but then I guess you would stop receiving your astroturfing paycheck from Apple. Guess you have a decision to make!!

First off, why the comparison to Vista? Vista doesn't compete with Apple as the DOJ and the EU and the EC have all stated. Even the zealots claim that they don't compete since Apple releases a computer/OS package while MS only sells OSs.

Second, Apple didn't create an OS. They stole BSD and slapped an insecure Window Manager on top of it. Funny how every single gaping security hole has been in Apple's rushed code!!!

• Yay

I got my copy on the 26th and despite its bugs I love it, it's a great feature rich release. Thank you apple! :D
