CES 2012: AT&T and HTC announce first LTE Windows Phone, the Titan II

Summary: It looks like Windows Phone devices are finally moving to the have the latest and greatest wireless radios with the announcement of a LTE Windows Phone from AT&T and HTC.

SHARE:

Readers know I am a huge Windows Phone fan and I have been debating making a move to AT&T since they get all the latest and greatest Windows Phone devices. It turns out that possible move was just made more compelling with the HTC Titan II LTE announcement made today at CES. Like most announcements here at CES, devices won't be released for months though so there is time to consider and see what else is announced.

The current HTC Titan is a beast of a phone and IMHO the best Windows Phone currently available. In addition to AT&T LTE, the Titan II sports a 1.5 GHz processor, 4.7 inch display (still WVGA), 16 megapixel camera (WOW!), 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, and more.

    I'd still like to have a real keyboard, but this one sounds very good.

  • Ummm....

    I hate to ask "The Question" but what is the estimated battery life? Any improvements over the might as well be tethered to the charger Android LTE phones?

    Wow! I keep waiting to ugrade from my iPhone to I had thought would be an iPhone 5, because with all my apps, music, videos, I feel stuck to stick with Apple, but this sounds like a major trump and maybe I should make a switch to a Windows phone now. Does this LTE really have a 16 Megapixel camera?!? When would this be available?

    Well, on battery life, with a single 1.5GHz proc, there is a good chance it would use MORE power than my dual core 1.5GHz Samsung Galaxy SII (Tmobe edition). I'm getting pretty good life out of it. Better than my 1GHz EVO4G I had. Part of the reason being the processor having to run flat out, when the dual-core can actually "loaf" on 2 cores. Looking at my battery stats, the screen is the worst offender by far. I've got a 4.5", and this thing is a 4.7"? Unless it is packing a 2200mah battery, I suspect life would be poor unless you leave the screen off.

    Good to see HTC at least giving Winmobe a shake with some premium hardware. Shame that Nokia (who is supposed to have the flagship phone) can't produce anything like this though...

      First of all it is Windows PHONE, not Windows Mobile (which is a dead OS). That's like calling Windows 7, Windows XP.

      And Nokia doesn't have premium hardware? Maybe you missed the Nokia Lumia 800 or even better the US version the Lumia 900...

    I want that phone. We won't hear anything from Verizon about WP7. Looks like AT&T might be the carrier I need to switch to.

      @Loverock Davidson-

      I did when WP7 came out, no regrets. Glad to be done with Verizon.

    ...aaaaaand Nokia's Lumia just got relegated to old-hat status even before it's announced. Great going, Nokia.

      Hardly, I like the Lumia 900...

      Its a far more attractive phone, the lens quality on my current HTC is horrible, 16mp doesn't mean a damn thing with a shotty lens.

    HTC won't have a chance in the US market until they put a decent antenna in their devices. I returned my Titan because the reception was so poor that I couldn't use it at work (3 bars on iPhone and no bars on Titan). Love the Windows Mango though, except for the crappy calendar. With decent hardware, more storage, and better screen Microsoft could wipe out the iPhone. Is that good?????
