CTIA 09: HTC announces the sleek Snap non-touchscreen device

By | April 1, 2009, 7:05am PDT

Summary: The T-Mobile Dash remains one of my favorite smartphones of all time and after I get home from CTIA I am going with my wife to pick up a new all black one for her for $50 at T-Mobile since she broke another one. She LOVES it and won’t go to another device, even after several of my failed attempts. That may change though if she saw what I get to see this week here at CTIA. HTC announced the Snap Windows Mobile non-touchsreen device that is the true successor to the T-Mobile Dash/HTC Excalibur. One key feature of the Snap’s new QWERTY keyboard is the offset arrangement of the keys since QWERTY thumb keyboards really should not have their keys all lined up as most of them are, but offset to make text entry more accurate.

The photos look awesome and I especially like seeing a small trackball in the center, sleek form factor, and cool button design.

Specifications for the HTC Snap include:

  • Qualcomm MSM 7225 528MHz processor
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard
  • 256MB ROM/192MB RAM
  • microSDHC card slot
  • 2.4 inch 320×240 display
  • 1500 mAh LiIon battery (nice capacity here)
  • Quad-band GSM and HSDPA (Euro and NAM bands)
  • 802.11 b/g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • GPS/AGPS receiver
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • New Inner Circle email management

I don’t see any specs on it supporting the T-Mobile USA 3G network so it looks like this will eventually be an AT&T device. I’ll post more thoughts on the hardware and software after my meeting with HTC.

HTC are growing to make some really amazing devices!

It almost seems like they are the only ones that manage to introduce new Windows Mobile devices that actually have good WOW effect with them, most other devices that I've seen lately are somewhat lacking. This new device definitely looks like something I'll have to get!
