First thoughts on the Nokia N97, not as impressed as I should be

Summary: I am working on an article for this blog to go live on Monday that compares the two latest/upcoming devices from the grandfathers of the mobile world; the Nokia N97 and HTC Touch Pro2. In the meantime, you can check out some of my first thoughts after a day with the Nokia N97. I have to say that so far I am finding the Nokia E71x to be a more useful device for me and am not really loving the home screen widgets or QWERTY keyboard of the N97. The N97 arrived at a good time though as I enter my second week with the Palm Pre with the iPhone 3G S launch just around the corner. I can tell you right now that in all likelihood at least one of these devices will be returned because of either the device functionality or carrier coverage.

  • What!?

    Now. That can't be.
    You're doing something wrong obviously.

Look, send it over to me so I can see what the problemas is.

I am sure I can resolve this issue. The N97 is perfect.

  • Loved my N82... N96 not so much.

My first Symbian smartphone was the Nokia N82. I thought
it was well worth the price and a great phone.

The Nokia N96 I replaced it with was very buggy. The
    software really needs some work.

I really wanted to love this phone. I was hoping that the N97
would be killer, but I decided to get the iPhone 3Gs instead.

I hate the N97. I've always had Nokias and they've been brilliant and reliable. Not
the N97 I'm afraid. What on earth possessed Nokia to bring it out. It needs far more
work doing on it before going out to the public. I've had mine several months now
and hate it more and more by the day. Never getting a Nokia again!
