Flipboard for Android now available, you don't need a Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung announced their Galaxy S III smartphone at the beginning of May (available now outside the US) and one of the exclusive apps that was revealed was Flipboard. It was stated as coming to other devices in the "coming months", but it seems they really just meant within a month. The great news for the rest of us Android smartphone owners is that yesterday the folks at Flipboard opened up the public beta so you can all now enjoy the application on your supported Android smartphone. The Verge has a download link in their post if you don't want to fill out the official form and wait for the link yourself.

Flipboard is one of the few applications I use every single day on my Apple iPad and it has made reading my feeds (Google Reader, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) a pure joy. In case you haven't tried it out, Flipboard turns your Internet content into a custom digital magazine and it looks fantastic. Others have tried to come up with similar apps, such as Google Currents, Pulse, and Weave, but in my opinion nothing beats Flipboard. I loaded it up on my HTC One X and the 4.7 inch display is perfect for easily enjoying content. A great function on Android devices is the ability to place the Flipboard widget on your home screen.

I also installed Flipboard on my 7 inch HTC Flyer and it works very well there too. I did see a display size error on my Flyer, but with the lower resolution of the Flyer it still worked just fine. If you have an iOS or Android device, I highly recommend you try out Flipboard. It is free and I think you will enjoy it as much as I do.
