Foursquare and Gowalla appear on more mobile platforms

I am a fan of social networking applications on my devices and was pleased with a couple recent new releases for a couple of my current smartphones. I recently pulled my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 out of the drawer and loaded it up with the latest WM 6.5.3 ROM with HTC Sense 2.5 found over on XDA Developers because I was growing a bit tired of the keyboardless Google Nexus One. I realized that the Touch Pro 2 is quite a nice device and as wonderful as the upcoming HD2 is going to be I don't think I can justify the cost given that WM 6.5 is on the way out and the TP2 is more than capable to satisfy my WM needs. We now have good Twitter clients, a fairly powerful Facebook client and, as of just a couple of days ago, a Foursquare application to go along with quite a few other applications.

WinMoSquare was in beta testing for the last couple of months, but is available now in the Windows Marketplace for Mobile application store. You will need a touchscreen device to use the application, along with GPS capability. As stated on the developer website, features of WinMoSquare include:

• Check In: Now you can make quick and easy check ins when ever and where ever you are
• Friends: See what your friends are up to, and where they are
• Add Venue: At a location that is not already in foursquare, no problem, just add it from WinMoSquare
• Badges: Keep track of you and your friends badges right from WinMoSquare
• Search: Look for nearby venues you can check out and then check in to

I am also a fairly new Palm Pre Plus owner and as we were recording PalmCast Live #99 I learned that Gowalla appeared in the Palm App Catalog. Gowalla is an alternative social networking, location-based application and service. I understand that Gowalla actually gives you rewards from places you are at, which is something that is beneficial to using these services. There are now version for the Apple iPhone, Google Android, and Palm webOS platforms with a mobile site (m.gowalla.com) for other devices such as BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Symbian.
