fring announces free Skype video calling from Symbian smartphones

By | November 24, 2009, 7:00am PST

Summary: One of the VoIP applications I have loaded on several devices is fring and I was pleased to read today that Skype and fring video calls are now supported on select Symbian S60 devices. fring video is currently supported on the Nokia X6, N97 mini, N97, 5800, N95, N95 8G and N82 devices. I have an N97 mini and will have to load up the latest version of fring and test out this new capability.

When I travel I often use Skype to stay in touch with my family, especially when traveling overseas. I have used video calling through my PC before and am interested in trying out video calling on a mobile phone.

fring stated that support for other platforms is under development and will be coming soon too.

I've got an Omnia HD running S60. Will I have to pretend it's Nokia to run this, do you know?

Thanks
