Google Android 2.2 adds support for Bluetooth voice control

Google Android 2.2 adds support for Bluetooth voice control

Summary: Another benefit to the new Google Android 2.2 Froyo update that was not listed in the release notes is full support for voice control via Bluetooth. You can now control you Google Android device wirelessly and get that much more functionality out of it.

SHARE:

One reason I tried to stick with my T-Mobile HD2 was the fantastic support for Bluetooth headset voice control with Microsoft Voice Command that was integrated into the device. We saw Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) released for the Nexus One this past weekend and one surprisingly good addition in the update is full support for Google voice commands via Bluetooth headsets. I tried out the Jawbone ICON just to see how well Bluetooth worked and found the hands-free voice support to work very well with my updated Nexus One.

As more and more states move to hands-free laws, including my home state of Washington, it is very important that Bluetooth functionality be fully supported on these devices. Did you also see in my article on the TouchDown Exchange application that you can have your emails spoken to you with TouchDown? Google Android continues to evolve and get better and better. Apple may have ignited the smartphone market three years ago, but Google Android is much faster moving and has now set the bar pretty high for everyone else and is not slowing down.

I was WAITING for this feature - unfortunately there is no CDMA N1 so I have to wait til Moto drops Froyo for VZW customers.. :(

What does 2.2 Bluetooth support add to hands-free car systems (specifically Acura if you know)?

This is one of the main things that has been keeping me from trying a droid as my main device. MS Voice Command is actually a surprisingly good application. I hope to find its equivalent on the driod platform soon.

Using Bluetooth, I managed to control a 4x4 Robot (Drone) remotely, using my Android G1. I?m using a serial connection over bluetooth, see it here: http://www.pocketmagic.net/?p=1398

What's interesting about this robot is that besides sensors for detecting Walls and Obstacles it comes with a Geiger Counter sensor to detect Radiation Levels.
