HP iPAQ Glisten brings an OLED display to a forward QWERTY device

The last HP iPAQ device I had a chance to try out was the iPAQ 910 and that was in July of 2008. I didn't expect HP to still be in the smartphone game a year and a half later, but we now see the HP iPAQ Glisten coming to AT&T business channels. My buddy Chris was sent one to evaluate and posted his unboxing and first look article this morning.

The Glisten is a forward facing QWERTY phone designed to give business customers a BlackBerry like experience with the best direct Exchange experience with a Windows Mobile 6.5 device. Specifications include the following:

  • 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (GSM/GPRS/EDGE Quad-band)
  • 850/1900/2100 MHz (UMTS/HSDPA Tri-band)
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 OS
  • 512 MB ROM + 256 MB RAM; with expandable microSD slot supporting up to 32GB
  • 2.5" 65K color QVGA (320x240) AMOLED Resistive Touch
  • QWERTY keyboard with 5-way directional pad
  • 802.11 b/g with WPA2 security
  • Bluetooth
  • A-GPS receiver
  • 1590mAh Lithium Ion battery
  • Dimensions: 4.45 x 2.48 x 0.52 inches
  • Weight: 5.29 ounces

It is nice to see a rather large battery in a fairly compact device and it should last for quite some time. The AMOLED display is also a nice touch and all the other wireless technologies are included. I worry a bit about the junk AT&T may throw on the device and will keep my eye out on Chris' evaluation to see what he finds. The device should sell for about $180 with a two year contract and $299 with no contract with availability through the business site stated as coming soon.
