HTC announces a Tattoo for the rest of us

There is something about the Google Android character that I really enjoy and I have seriously been considering getting a tattoo of it on my arm or leg. Today, HTC announced a device that I think my wife would approve of first and that is the HTC Tattoo Google Android device running the slick HTC Sense UI. As stated in the press release the HTC Tattoo is taking a page from the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and focusing on the personalization aspects of the device with the ability to create a custom skin and make it your own.

Most all of the specifications look good, but I am curious to see how a 240x320 QVGA display looks given that all other Android devices have had 320x480 HVGA resolution displays. HTC is targeting the new Android user and it looks like the display resolution is one way they are cutting costs. However, all the other specifications are the same as their latest high end devices and include:

  • 528 MHZ Qualcomm MSM7225 processor
  • 512MB flash ROM
  • 256MB RAM
  • 2.8 inch 240x320 QVGA display
  • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera
  • 802.11 b/g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • GPS receiver
  • FM radio
  • Digital compass
  • Accelerometer
  • microSD card slot
  • 3.5mm audio jack (YAY!)
  • 1100 mAh battery

As you can see it really is a full featured Google Android device and looks quite attractive to me. The HTC Tattoo should be available in Europe early next month (October) with other markets following. There was no pricing information given at this time.
