HTC announces a Tattoo for the rest of us

Summary: There is something about the Google Android character that I really enjoy and I have seriously been considering getting a tattoo of it on my arm or leg. Today, HTC announced a device that I think my wife would approve of first and that is the HTC Tattoo Google Android device running the slick HTC Sense UI. As stated in the press release the HTC Tattoo is taking a page from the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and focusing on the personalization aspects of the device with the ability to create a custom skin and make it your own.

Most all of the specifications look good, but I am curious to see how a 240x320 QVGA display looks given that all other Android devices have had 320x480 HVGA resolution displays. HTC is targeting the new Android user and it looks like the display resolution is one way they are cutting costs. However, all the other specifications are the same as their latest high end devices and include:

  • 528 MHZ Qualcomm MSM7225 processor
  • 512MB flash ROM
  • 256MB RAM
  • 2.8 inch 240x320 QVGA display
  • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera
  • 802.11 b/g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • GPS receiver
  • FM radio
  • Digital compass
  • Accelerometer
  • microSD card slot
  • 3.5mm audio jack (YAY!)
  • 1100 mAh battery

As you can see it really is a full featured Google Android device and looks quite attractive to me. The HTC Tattoo should be available in Europe early next month (October) with other markets following. There was no pricing information given at this time.

  • no slide out keyboard

I have large hands, so on screen keyboards don't work for me. The G1's keyboard is the best and other HTC models have large keys also.

    I want more keyboard phones.

    • IPHONE KEYBOARD ON SCREEN IS JUST FINE FOR ME

Hi you people go on about the keyboard i had an a1000 motorola before my iphone and i send messages on both very quickly, just a matter of getting used to it also i have friends who dislike
the tiny hardware buttons on some of the other smartphone models.

      • Now if verizon would just carry the stupid iphone

        i could get one. :)

Right now i have a verizon samsung with pop out keyboard. I would gladly upgrade to the iphone.. but only if verizon gets it.

        ATT sucks.

        • Verizon can't carry iPhone...

ATT has an exclusive contract, Apple went to
Verizon first and they turned them down. Before
the iPhone the defacto standard was that
carriers decided ultimately what went into a
phone. Apple used its marketing clout and a
exclusive contract to get ATT to let them
design the iPhone however they wanted. ATT
sucks even worse now cause their network can't
keep up with the pressure of the added 9
million iPhone users. But with their contract
being up soon and the bad rap ATT has gotten
restricting SMS media on the iPhone they
probably don't want to put that much money into
their network that is likely to drop
drastically after their contracts up. My guess
is iPhone users are going to be running like
          ATT is on fire.

    • Agreed

Not that I can't use an on screen keyboard, I just really really prefer a physical one. I think it'd be cool if it had some game controls too.
