HTC Touch Pro from Sprint available next week

Summary: I've had lots of experiences with the HTC Touch Diamond and think it is a wonderful device for those who like touch screen devices, but I still prefer to have a hardware keyboard. HTC and Sprint just officially announced the launch of the HTC Touch Pro that will be available in retailers starting next week for US$299.99 with a 2-year committment, qualified plan, and US$100 mail-in rebate. The HTC Touch Pro adds a slider QWERTY keyboard with 5 full rows for accurate text entry.

I actually haven't had a chance to really play with one of these yet so I cannot comment on the usability of the keyboard, but hope to get a review unit soon and write about my experiences here. The HTC Touch Pro still makes use of the TouchFLO 3D interface and adds a microSD card slot instead of an integrated flash drive. It supports Sprint's fast EV-DO Rev. A network, has integrated WiFi and Bluetooth radios, has an integrated GPS receiver, comes with 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM powered by a 528MHz processor, and has a decent capacity 1340 mAh battery.

  • Available on Thursday for shipping on Friday

I was just talking ot Sprint Account Services. Best Buy has them as we speak and I had one in my hand but there was a problem with the fact that I am not elligible for the full upgrade price. $299 for a 2 year if you are elligible and $459 if you are 1 year but not 2 years into your elligibility! There seems to be some confusion.

Anyway Sprint Account Services stated that she can call me on Thursday (10/3)0 morning and order one for delivery on Friday (+$15 for 1 day shipping) and she will honor the $299 price.
He source stated tha they will be in inventory on Thursday.

I just bought the Touch Pro yesterday. While it takes normal adjusting to get use to a new device, I am pretty impressed with the newer technology behind the unit.

The only concern I have; the time it takes to load certain programs is slower than the norm and can become annoying.

The memory isn't large enough to support upgrades to certain web hostings (yahoo! Go).

However, I am very happy with the design, the feel and the navigation of the phone. It is kind of like having a PDA smart phone that is windows based, but offs the same functions of a reg cell phone - i.e. you can now send picture mail to another phone. Before you would have to send it to someone email.

    Signed,
Getting used to the device and seeing postive results.
