Humorous and effective ads appear for Samsung Galaxy devices

Summary: Samsung is the leader in Android smartphones and there are a couple new ads that show some compelling reasons to consider their products this holiday season.

SHARE:

A couple of years ago I wrote about the smartphone line experience and how for geeks like me it was a fun event. Samsung just starting showing some new ads and the one with people in line for the next iPhone is classic for those millions of us that have stood in line for iPhones over the years.

I wrote about my top 10 smartphones for 2011 and many readers stated their opinion that I was dead wrong about the Samsung Galaxy S II and that it should have been higher. That phone is actually the top vote getter in the poll too. I agree it is a great device and will do well on all carriers. The commercial below is hilarious and matches my experiences in iPhone lines. What do you think of the ad?

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is also coming soon to Verizon and I have to admit it is going to be tough for me to resist picking one up with all of the excellent specifications and the fact it runs Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung Google released this ad below for the Galaxy Nexus too.

This Galaxy Nexus ad seems effective to me and gets away from comparing specs or scaring the heck out of you (Why would you ever want a Motorola Droid robot weapon?) and does what Apple has effectively done by showing how seamsless things just work without detailed explanations.

    One might expect and actually look forward to the petty, immature "my phone's bigger than yours" mentality that exists on tech nerd forums, but to stoop to this level in an ad campaign makes Samsung look, well, petty, immature and remarkably desperate.

      @Delvardo
      This is on the same level as the "I'm a mac, and I'm a pc" ads. I think both campaigns are good, but if you think only one is good you're just a fanboy.

      • No, the original is good, and the copy is not quite

        @Jean-Pierre-: this has nothing to do with fanboy thing.

        Samsung copies Apple in many ways -- they just do it now in advertisement, too.

      @Delvardo

      Got a little phone envy there bro.... ;-)

      I think it is hilarious....people that actually line up for hours/day to get an new Apple product have got to be a subset of the biggest losers on the planet...talk about a waste of your precious time on earth!

      That line "I could never get a Samsung....I'm too creative"....the best!

    • Seriously? Lighten up and enjoy life a bit

      @Delvardo Wow, people really need to stop being so cynical and negative. If you have ever stood in line for a phone or tech product (yes, it is a good time to sit and chat with fellow geeks) then you will understand the ad is so true. Life is a blessing so enjoy it and look at the bright side of things.

        @palmsolo (aka Matthew Miller) you didn't see the full version of ad, if you only watched that one... This ad obviously does not target iPhone fans to buy a Galaxy S II, it obviously makes fun of die-hard fanboyism that makes you stand in-line for hours just to get something a few hours earlier. Anyway, the long ad has more in it, such as reactions from the line, "watching Samsung while in iPhone line" : "This is like adultery" one of them says, at end, they say "Nah, I like mine better, it has kinda retro look which I like" shows exactly it is not targeted for iPhone users.

      • I agree, life is too darn short.

        @palmsolo (aka Matthew Miller)

        I feel sorry for all the gadget chasers that stand in line just because they are desperate to be a part of something. It's fun to play with gadgets, but life is short, make sure you arent wasting yours.

        And find something real and wholesome to bring meaning into your life. Don't base your identity on the products you use--they are just things.

    • The commercial actually make the people in line look desparate, IMHO

      @Delvardo
      like they're desparately looking for acceptence of some type, thinking a phone will do that for them while the Samsung owners are getting on with life, even though they got an awsome phone, they know that it doesn't make them who they are.

      That's just how I see it. But then again I thought the "Mac vs PC' ads made Apple look, well, petty, immature and remarkably desperate.

      Once again, just my opinion.

    • RE: Humorous and effective ads appear for Samsung Galaxy devices

      @dderss: And Apple copies Google, so much of iOS5 is copied from elsewhere. Your point?

      Sure Samsung have copied from Apple but plenty of things in their phones is their own too. Read a Galaxy S2 review.

      @Delvardo: And the "I'm a mac, and I'm a pc" ads weren't petty? It's ridiculous anyone wouldn't look at the competition before choosing a phone. I doubt I'll ever buy an iPhone but I make a point of reading reviews of the new ones still. You never know, I may be surprised.

    So funny and so TRUE! I don't hate the cult of Apple, but I think of them as a cult. They are blinded by the hype and overlook the fact that the specs of the iPhone in particular are average at best. Pick anything, display, camera, call quality, memory, etc and the iPhone is in the middle or low end of all those.

        Yeah, rich and smart people prefer to pay twice as much money to get half as much less performance and quality. Of course!

        While Apple rakes in all these magical profits, on your backs only!

        Isn't cult life wonderous?

      And when Apple releases iPhone 5 next year with a 4 inch or bigger screen, all the fanbois will forget all about statements like these. "Four inches is perfect omg!!!"

      @baggins_z

I think you, dderss and William Farell (among others) try just a bit too hard to be acolytes for your chosen 'hero companies'. It is tiresome to read. I can barely fathom why it is so important that you are willing to expend so much energy trying to spin EVERYTHING to favor your choices.
