Kindle for BlackBerry application now available
Amazon today joined Barnes & Noble with a BlackBerry version of its ebook reader software so you can now take your Kindle content with you on the go. There has been an iPhone Kindle application for almost a year now so it is great to see Amazon expanding to other popular smartphones. I would love to eventually see an Android application as well since I still have Kindle books I purchased back when I owned a Kindle and would love to read them on all my smartphones.
No Kindle is required to use this application and with it BlackBerry owners will have access to the entire Kindle ebook library. You can synchronize your last page read and annotations between devices with Whispersync, including syncing bookmarks. With this new application you can now read Kindle content on your Kindle, PC, or BlackBerry. Supported BlackBerry models include the Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8520, Curve 8900, Storm 9550, and Tour 9630.
You can shop for books in the Kindle store on your BlackBerry too and get free book samples to read. Kindle newspapers, magazines, and blogs are not supported on the Kindle for BlackBerry application. Kindle for BlackBerry is also available to US customers only.
Future enhancements include scrolling, creation of notes and highlights, and search within books.
