Samsung announced a few new Android devices, primarily targeted at the mid to low end of the market.

I was browsing my feeds before heading to bed and ran across the news on pocketnow.com that Samsung announced a few new Android smartphones that follow their new naming convention. As you can see they announced a high end Galaxy W, a mid-tier Galaxy M Pro, and the Galaxy Y and Y Pro with no pricing or availability information.

The Galaxy W sports Android Gingerbread, a 1.4 GHz processor, 3.7 inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, and the other standard wireless technologies. They have more powerful devices available now with fantastic Super AMOLED Plus large displays so I don't see much appeal in this Galaxy W device myself.

The Galaxy M Pro looks interesting with the front facing QWERTY keyboard, but I wonder if the consumer wants such a keyboard on an Android phone given that the HTC Status doesn't appear to be doing too well. This keyboard device reportedly runs Gingerbread with a 1 GHz processor and small 2.66 inch display.

The Galaxy Y line also comes loaded with Gingerbread with an 800 MHz processor, which seems to be the processor for lower end Android devices. The three inch QVGA display makes it a device I wouldn't consider, but if the price is right people may still buy it.

It is likely that we will see higher end devices announced next week at IFA in Berlin and those of us in the U.S. should soon expect to see the Samsung Galaxy S II devices coming to various carriers.
