Slacker rolls out Premium Radio service with complete music selection controls

By | May 17, 2011, 9:55am PDT

Summary: Slacker is my favorite music streaming service and today they announced a new tier to give the consumer even more control of the music they listen to. With offline support, the service is the way to go for those without huge music collections.

I am a big fan of the Zune music experience on my Windows Phone devices, but for my other smartphones I use Slacker Radio. Today, Slacker, Inc. announced a third tier of their service to give music fans full on-demand access to individual songs, albums, charts, and more. Slacker Radio Premium is available today on the Internet and on applications for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry smartphones. The webOS, Windows Phone 7, and Symbian clients do not yet have this option.

For those unfamiliar with Slacker Radio, it is now loaded on many Android devices out-of-the box and is available in three tiers:

  • Slacker Basic Radio: Free with ads, limited skips, less user control
  • Slacker Radio Plus: $3.99/month, no ads, unlimited skips, offline song support
  • Slacker Premium Radio: $9.99/month, specific song, album, artist selection, custom playlists, everything in Radio Plus

Detailed features of the new Premium Radio experience include the following:

  • Search, play and replay specific songs or entire albums
  • Create specific playlists on mobile and on the web
  • Off-line playback of stations, playlists and albums on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, Android and BlackBerry smartphones
  • Replay specific songs on programmed and custom stations
  • Browse and play “Favorite” songs, now collected in one location
  • Unlimited song skipping
  • Ad-free listening
  • Complete song lyrics
  • Browse Top Charts on all Slacker genre stations
  • Peek Ahead artist, album and song preview
  • Ability to skip forward and backward

You can have the $9.99/month fee billed directly to your Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, or AT&T account on Android and BlackBerry smartphones or purchase the subscription directly from the Slacker website.

@voyager529 Since I check out so many devices I like that Slacker is available on all platforms and that is what sets it apart for me. They have iOS, Android, BlackBerry, webOS, Symbian, and WP7 clients.
