Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 announced for 8 September release

Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 announced for 8 September release

Summary: I don't think it has ever been officially stated, but rumors have shown that we can expect the excellent HTC Touch Pro2 (see my initial impressions) to come to at least the four major US wireless carriers. T-Mobile was the first a few weeks ago and today Sprint announced the Touch Pro2 will be available starting 8 September for the same $349.99 price that T-Mobile sells the device for. Unfortunately, you will have to pay $100 more on Sprint and wait for a mail-in rebate while T-Mobile has no mail-in rebate. There are a couple of hardware and software bonuses with the Sprint model compared to the T-Mobile model though.

I don't think it has ever been officially stated, but rumors have shown that we can expect the excellent HTC Touch Pro2 (see my initial impressions) to come to at least the four major US wireless carriers. The major hardware improvement is that a 3.5mm headset jack is available rather than having just a miniUSB port that requires an adapter. I understand this is a CDMA/GSM radio issue due to space constraints within the shell of the device so it looks like no GSM model of the device will have the 3.5mm headset jack.

One application I see that is included on the Sprint Touch Pro2 that I am really missing on the T-Mobile model is WorldCard Mobile Business Card Scanner that does a fantastic job of scanning in business card data with a photo you take from the device.

We haven't seen any images yet of the Sprint model so I cannot comment on the QWERTY keyboard layout, but as soon as I can find images I will add them and offer a comparison with the existing T-Mobile variant.

I have been thoroughly enjoying my T-Mobile Touch Pro2 and think it is the BEST Windows Mobile device I have ever used. I have it loaded up with some excellent applications and it has been performing flawlessly.

UPDATE: Here is the press photo for the Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 and if you look closely between this device and the T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro2 you will see they are just about the exact same, except for one rather major detail. The T-Mobile Touch Pro2 has a Ctrl button so you can easily cut, copy, and paste using the keyboard.

  • Telus Touch Pro2

I have a Telus [a Canadian carrier] HTC Touch Pro2, which is both CDMA/GSM and has the 3.5mm jack.

I've had a HTC Touch Diamond for 2 years this November and like the screen-based keyboard with its alternate layouts quite well. I find it very quirky though and not at all smooth in its screen navigation functions. Least liked are the portrait/landscape limits. Excel in portrait is a PIA. I now have an iPhone which is the ultimate device--anything you want to do is doable. My Touch is a Sprint which I plan to replace with a G4 air card as soon as my 2 years are up.
