T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro2 coming 12 August

Summary: The HTC Touch Pro2 (read about my hands-on experiences) is the device I believe has one of the most amazing QWERTY keyboards ever produced on a smartphone. We all know the device will eventually be coming to all US wireless carriers and it looks like T-Mobile will be first with the just announced 12 August release date.

The HTC Touch Pro2 (read about my hands-on experiences) is the device I believe has one of the most amazing QWERTY keyboards ever produced on a smartphone. We all know the device will eventually be coming to all US wireless carriers and it looks like T-Mobile will be first with the just announced 12 August release date. The device will be named the HTC Touch Pro2 (I am kind of surprised T-Mobile did not go with Wing2 or something else) and will be available in a mocha finish. There is currently no pricing information provided, but my guess is we will see it at $299 or $349 with 2-year contract and activation since it is an extremely powerful smartphone.

The T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro2 will support T-Mobile's 3G network, has a 3.6 inch WVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and more. The announcement does not mention support for T-Mobile's UMA network, which is unfortunate for T-Mobile customers. If I was still with T-Mobile I would jump on this device in a second, but now I have to wait for the AT&T model. The keyboards on US carriers for HTC products like this usually vary slightly so I do hope to get some evaluation time with this device to see how the keyboard is configured specifically for T-Mobile.

  • My kingdom for 3G!

I love my T-Mobile plan and service, only one pitfall. There is no 3G in my area, AT&T just rolled it out a couple months ago but so far T-Mobile has no answer to my pleas. This is the phone I want, only thing I don't like is that there is no flash for the camera, whats with all these manufacturers not putting in a flash? Seriously how hard would it be to put an LED on the back? Since T-Mobile has no 3G I will probably go with the AT&T version, "Fortress" how is that for a strong name? lol

I'm getting the TP2 just as soon as it arrives on Sprint. Come on Sprint, we're ready for this!

Unless HTC has significantly addressed the poor battery life on the standard battery and the limited number of charges per battery (per Sprint's own website admission of 80 charges per) this device is useless to me as a portable device.

To have all day service on the HTC Touch Pro requires at least a 2500mAH battery which HTC does not provide, its accessory outlet can't find and non-OEM's cannot identify which extended battery is for Sprint versions of this device.

A shame for such a very capable product that works so nicely.

    • $13 for an extra battery

With my old Kaiser and Diamond I would usually carry a second battery in a jacket pocket. Poor battery life hasn't been an issue with my Xperia or Dash 3G.
If the Touch Pro 2 has battery life issues, and it might with the high resolution screen, conference calling, 3G, etc... then I might just get a second battery for $13. I don't think it's a big deal to swap out the battery once in a while.

hope the sprint one won't be an uhgly mocha color too.
I've been waiting for this one since the 2009 line up
leak early spring. I still have the original touch, I
gave in and bought it, then sat around hoping the touch
cruise would come to the US. hope they come up with a
better price than $300 and a forced contract though...

I agree on the no flash issue, what's up with that? would
be nice if it uses the same battery as the touch, I have
    3 of them already...
