Verizon confirms Android 2.0 upgrade with Google Maps Navigation for Droid Eris

HTC previously stated they are working on an upgrade from Android 1.5 to Android 2.0 for the HTC Hero devices while they are skipping Android 1.6. Verizon has announced they will be bringing Android 2.0 with Google Maps Navigation to the HTC Droid Eris in the first quarter of 2010. Also, this weekend you can get a Droid Eris for free when you buy one for $99.99.

HTC previously stated they are working on an upgrade from Android 1.5 to Android 2.0 for the HTC Hero devices while they are skipping Android 1.6. I understood this to mean the GSM Hero and Sprint Hero, but was wondering about the new HTC Droid Eris from Verizon since it is another variant of the Hero with a different name and form factor. According to Engadget Verizon has announced they will be bringing Android 2.0 with Google Maps Navigation to the HTC Droid Eris in the first quarter of 2010. After playing with both the Eris and Motorola Droid and knowing this update is indeed coming I would personally go for the HTC Droid Eris since I find HTC Sense to be more compelling and useful than having standard Google Android on a device with a substandard keyboard.

If you are interested in the HTC Droid Eris, Verizon is also making it even more compelling by offering up their Buy One Get One (BOGO) offer to the HTC Droid Eris. That means you can now get two Droid Eris devices for just $99.99 after online $100 discount. This is a limited time offer that I hear expires on Monday, 7 December.

Any readers have the HTC Droid Eris? If so, are you happy with the device.
