What's this? Nokia showing US buyers some N97 love

I was worried about my N97 preorder after picking up the Palm Pre on Saturday and then hearing about the iPhone 3GS news yesterday, but both my personal experiences with the Pre and reading more about the iPhone 3GS just made me feel a whole lot better about my N97 purchase. I think the Pre is a nice first product for the WebOS and if it was a GSM phone I would keep it and add it to my collection. I don't think the iPhone 3GS offers much over the existing iPhone 3G and think the N97 has a lot more to offer.

People will argue that S60 is old and outdated, but I think you need to really take a look at why you may think this. S60 has icon based menus that appear similar to the iPhone, Palm Pre, and Google Android so the UI is not that different. The capacitive displays are indeed nice and the more I use them the more I start to dislike resistive displays. However, Nokia and HTC are helping with these by making even resistive displays more touch friendly. While S60 may be getting old, it is extremely functional and works for me. We all have to make personal choices when it comes to mobile operating systems and devices and I am not passing any judgement on any OS or saying you suck because you use so and so. It is a phone people, so don't get so fired up and angry at people who use something you don't use and like using something you don't.

As an existing AT&T customer, you can also find the N97 for less than the iPhone 3GS with no obligated contract so this is definitely something to consider.

In other Nokia N97 news, Qik announced their software will be loaded on future S60 devices, starting with the N97. I saw this software in action at CTIA and it was fantastic with fairly high definition recording capability.
