Will IE Mobile 6 be available on existing hardware?

Summary: The last we heard from a Microsoft source was that you would need to buy a new Windows Mobile device to get the Internet Explorer Mobile 6.1 web browser. WMExperts posted on the rumored Sprint Diamond ROM update that shows MSIE 6.0 in the list of new/different features. If the Sprint Touch Diamond can support IE Mobile 6 then there are a host of even more powerful devices (Touch Pro, XPERIA X1, etc.) that should be able to support it too with an update.

No IE Mobile 6 for you; what can Microsoft do about WM?The last we heard from a Microsoft source was that you would need to buy a new Windows Mobile device to get the Internet Explorer Mobile 6 web browser. IE Mobile 6 was announced last year with Windows Mobile 6.1, but has not yet been released. It is supposed to drastically improve the browsing experience, although I imagine it still can't compete with Opera Mobile. However, there are times when IE is needed to access certain sites and I personally look forward to trying IE Mobile 6 on my devices.

So Microsoft, what is the deal with getting IE Mobile 6 on existing hardware? Will you really require people to buy new devices just to get a bit better web browser that should have been included with WM 6.1?
