Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update is officially launched

By | September 27, 2011, 10:55am PDT

Summary: Microsoft officially announced that the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update is now rolling out to customers and T-Mobile announced it will be launching a new device this holiday season too.

The rumors and speculation were correct and today Microsoft made it official that the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update is starting to roll out to customers. In addition, T-Mobile announced that the HTC Radar will be coming with their HSPA+ network support in time for the holidays.

Microsoft hopes to have a smoother rollout with Mango than they did with NoDo and is turning on the update slowly at first with anticipation that 98 percent of the existing Windows Phone owners will have the update within 4 weeks and much sooner for most. I have an evaluation HTC Trophy on Verizon and after plugging it in a few minutes ago I saw there was an update for the device and am updating it now.

UPDATE: The available update was just the 7392 security update for the Trophy. I’ll keep an eye out for the Mango update though.

UPDATE 2: I connected my Dell Venue Pro that has the developer version of Mango RTM installed and was informed that the Mango ISV version is available so I am updating that device now.

There is post on the Windows Phone Blog that has some hands-on impressions of the upcoming T-Mobile HTC Radar 4G. My wife is very frustrated at the moment with her Nokia N8 (she really just likes the camera) and it looks like the HTC Radar 4G may be just the device for her this Christmas. If Nokia gets a Windows Phone device out, then that may be her new device instead though.

From the press email we have the following for the Radar 4G:

The HTC Radar 4G is elegantly crafted with an aluminum unibody design for a sleek and stylish appearance. Sporting a large 3.8-inch LCD touch screen display with a virtual QWERTY keyboard and powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the HTC Radar 4G delivers an efficient mobile communications experience at 4G speeds. The smartphone provides a comprehensive productivity experience with fully integrated Microsoft Exchange and calendar as well as Microsoft Office Hub and Internet Explorer 9 for a fast, beautiful Web experience. Additionally, the new smartphone is equipped with dedicated camera button for easy access to the 5-megapixel camera with LED flash so you never miss a photo opportunity, even if the phone is locked.

I don't think I'm getting it today. sad
@Cylon Centurion I wonder if the 'yanking the internet' trick will work with Mango as it did with No-Do. I'll have to wait to get home to try it.

I keep checking for an update but nothing yet. I've got a Focus 1.3. Hope it's available sometime today.

Update: Just found this computer world article. Only 10% of users getting it at first. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9220329/Microsoft_starts_gradual_rollout_of_Windows_Phone_7.5_Mango_update?taxonomyId=75

Then you don't have to worry about being that first 10%. I understand a staged rollout, you want to limit issues in the event of a major problem. I just don't want to wait any longer! Mine is updating as I type though.
@LiquidLearner I tried over 100 times and couldn't yank the Internet at the right time to cause an update. Everything from the instant I press update to 5 seconds. I can't believe I missed the timing that many times. I give up.
@Bookmark71

You have to disable/disconnect your internet connection within 1-2 seconds after you hit the Update button.
@herry.k I decided to try updating my phone on my work pc so I loaded Zune and first attempt it offered 7392 so it's working. I don't know how I missed the disconnect time window so many times at home. I tried over 100 times on a Windows PC with Zune software and even tried it about 20 times on my Mac with the Windows Phone Connector. Anyway, glad to report it finally worked.
I got the Windows Phone 7 for ISV beta (7720) notification
It says it will update my phone to the retial 7720 image
:{ unfortunately Im at work and they block the servers so i can not download till i get home
Got my HD7 updated. Waiting for 2 Focus, and 1 LG Quantum to get the update. of course one of the Focus is enjoying the beta bits. The HD7 was running beta bits too and the update was smooth, no need to go back to NODO like Microsoft promised.

Forcing the update
IE9 27th Sep
For those that do not want to wait for the update to arrive here a mthod to force the update.
Connect your Phone to PC and start Zune.
Go to settings to check for phone update.
Disconnect you internetcable when immediatly after Zune client starts checking for update of your phone and reinsert it again after 10 seconds or so.
Should work but results may vary depending on how long you take to reinstate the internet connection
Got nothing. Even tried the above method. Got a Quantum waiting, hope it isn't too much longer...
Got the update for my focus and it turned my phone into a brick!! Have it in download mode to download the update from att instead of in zune. I hope it fixes it!
I want to see Samsung put put devices on Verizion. The focus S looks stunning.
Id like to see a hybrid with the radar's styling and the titans specs. 8G is a bit too small.
I have a samsung focus and it turned my phone into a brick! I got my phone back to nodo but the mango won't go in or bricks the phone! Great job microsoft!

I forced the Mango update last night

I love it!

1) Everything about my phone feels fresher and better. That's not hyperbole, I think they must have put a lot of effort into improving performance.

2) Browsing the web was somewhat painful on my Focus pre-Mango, but it is super fast now. Pages load quicker.

3) The contact groups feature is amazing. It's something I've been wanting from Facebook for years. Google+ rolled it out, but no one uses Google+. So now, on my phone, I have Google+-like circles for my Facebook friends.

4) Played around with the voice features, which were pretty cool.

Mango, so far, rocks my world. Very good update.

Here is how to get it
MangoLover 28th Sep
Depending on how fast is your computer / internet the correct delay varies for each one of you. Mine worked at about 8sec mark.. It didn't work initially for me and I thought it was a prank.. but, later, I got 7.0.7392.0, then trying few more times got me 7.0.7403.0 and at the end of that update, it did automatic update to Mango 7.10.7720.68! Enjoying Mango since last evening.

Force Mango Update
LalithChinta 28th Sep
I force installed it yesterday on my samsung focus, I had no problems at all.. 7392 first, 7403 next then final mango version 7720..!! Enjoying the new features and stupid att blocked visual voice mail!!
There were widespread reports of problems with using a memory card in a Samsung Focus. Any idea if that is fixed with Mango or is that a Samsung issue?
