More 3G options for HP, Lenovo laptops

The news out of GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona isn't all cell phones. Qualcomm announced that HP will ship several business laptops this year using its Gobi 3G chipset. Meanwhile Sony Ericsson said it will provide the HSPA modules for "select Lenovo ThinkPads" beginning this year.

Acer plans new, low-cost laptop

Acer, the world's third largest computer seller, said today that it will offer a new, low-cost laptop targeted primarily at emerging markets. The specs and price would put it in direct competition with other low-cost models such as the Asus Eee PC and the Everex CloudBook, and to a lesser extent OLPC's XO laptop.

Nvidia posts details of new laptop GPUs

It seems Nvidia has "soft-launched" its new graphics processing units (GPUs) for laptops. Though the company hasn't officially announced the GeForce 9M series, the basic specs and other information now appear on Nvidia's site.

No AMD at Not so fast

Last night, I wrote that Dell had added a few Penryn options to one of its most popular laptops, the XPS M1330. Now comes word that the company may have dropped systems using AMD processors from altogether. While it certainly isn’t great news for AMD, it may not be as dire as it sounds.
