Is it in response to the Intel Sandy Bridge defect or an effort to move product before the launch of its Bulldozer platform? Either way, AMD has quietly slashed pricing on some Phenom II X4 and Phenom II X6 CPUs.

According to Fudzilla, three X4 quad-core processors — the 955 BE, 965 BE and 970 BE — saw their prices cut by $10, which works out to between a 5.4 percent and 6.9 percent reduction.

The X6 chips saw an even bigger cut. The 1055T is now $175 (from $199) , the 1090T is $205 (from $235), and the 1100T costs $239 (from $265).

You can now get a six-core CPU for close to $150. It may not be as fast as Intel’s fastest, but it represents a great value if you’re looking for the most cores for the buck.

With tax season looming, and refunds starting to pour in. You bet there will be a lot of computers and laptops sold. I guess AMD learned from Intel, how to kick someone when you're down. I guess we'll see what the bulldozer can do...
That makes sense considering that the Intel Core i7-950 beats even the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T in benchmark tests anyway. In fact, the Core i7-950 with 12 GB RAM is an alternate equivalent to a Core i7-2600 with 8 GB RAM for those of you who were planning to purchase a Sandy Bridge system in February or March.
The AMD 1090T six core processor was an impressive chip. I look forward to getting the chance to overclock this new AMD 1100T! I just hope they figured out how to keep the next generation stable above 4.0Ghz.

Here are some benchmark results:
