The latest entry in the company's lineup is the G73JH-X1, now available for $1,549.99 at Newegg.

It comes with the latest hardware from Intel and ATI in the form of a Core i7-720QM CPU and a Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. You also get 8GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a 17.3-inch LED-backlit screen. One thing that it does have in common with more expensive gaming portables: considerable heft. You'll be lugging around an 8-pound beast if you buy one—that is, if you ever bother unplugging it in the first place.

  • Looks like a sweet deal.... BUT

I've heard a lot of bad things about ASUS's customer and warranty support.... and now have experienced it for myself, since I have tried to get a graphics card fan fixed by them (things only 4 months old and the damned thing fell off the card!) and they are punting it between them and Newegg.... neither one wants to admit that it is or isn't their problem to fix.

  • You're right about their $hitty service

I have a $600 graphics card that's not working correctly and after leaving several messages on their voice mail 'cause no one answered the phone and NO ONE ever calling me back. I gave up and bought another card.

    Their service STINKS!

    AMEN.
They may make some decent products, but when they do not work and/or there is a problem, there is no one home to help. And, when someone finally answers, maybe 6 months later, they go through all this BS about apologizing but do not help you fix the problem.

  • Asus Needs To Fix Their Support First!

Asus needs to have a Real Support system in place before they make any more products. They have the theory that once you give them your money for a product, they are done. Asus Support is absolutely awful! I've bought a lot of Asus parts, and had no luck in getting correct bios updates and drivers to fix their problems. You are lucky if you even get a response from them. I will NOT buy Asus laptops because of this.

  • Support Indeed!!!

I bought this laptop - hoping that the sheer power will be great for my work as a developer/consultant.
Apart from initial driver issues that caused the machine to randomly lock up, its the most fantastic piece of hardware Ive ever owned. Works like dream to run various VMs etc etc. Also good with WebSphere product suite ond so on.

However. After a disk crash, ASUS refused to just do a swopout on the harddisk. They expect me to ship the entire machine to them, with no ETA of when I get it back. For the same reason, I cant get the keyboard replaced(the keys dont light up anymore). I need this machine for work - it pays my salary.

So had to go ahead and buy another laptop to serve as backup for this one. I would never have bought it had I known the support is virtually nonexistent.

    Definitely dell/hp from here on.
