Whether you want to call it an enticement to juice post-holiday sales or a way to clear inventory before Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors arrive, Dell has posted a new configuration (spotted by our sister site CNET) for its Adamo 13 ultra-portable laptop that not only drops the price $100 to $899, but also packs twice as much RAM and a faster processor.

A Windows-based competitor to the MacBook Air, the Adamo 13 had come with an Intel Core 2 Duo lower-power processor running at 1.4GHz and 2GB of DDR3 memory. The latest version updates the processor to the 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600 and doubles the RAM to 4GB. Other specs remain, including a 128GB solid-state drive (in lieu of a hard drive), integrated graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium, and 1,366×768 LED-backlit 13.4-inch display.

While the SL9600 processor is a definite improvement, the Adamo 13 still isn’t going to be a high-octane system, though Dell has made the innards a little more appealing. The exterior already has appeal, given its 4-pound weight and a thickness of just 0.65 inches. And this could make a nice little post-Xmas present for yourself, if you need a laptop and still have some money left in your wallet.

All the price drops in the world won't help as long as they pre-load that clunker of an OS Windows.
I was very much interested in Adamo a while back, but they don't have the models for display in stores like best buy. Then I thought about VAIO X series, but it has Atom processor. I also thought about Macbook Air, but that is also is not very usable from my standpoint since most of the hardware accessories are missing. Hopefully with this update in Adamo, Dell might also push the models in store.

XPS laptop inventory appears to be dumping

I've been looking at Dell XPS laptops, however in recent weeks all of the customizable options have disappeared. No choices for processors, RAM, screen, etc. Looks to me that they're dumping existing inventory to get ready for Sandy-cakes.
So much for the vaunted MacBook Air killer.
