First PC game supporting Microsoft Kinect is confirmed

Though there’s speculation that Microsoft will eventually provide Windows support for its Kinect hands-free control system for the Xbox 360, it seems like everybody is jumping the gun. Hackers have made it work with PCs almost from its launch, and now a Korean PC game developer is claiming its new title will support Kinect.

GamePrix told IncGamers that its game Divine Soul will include support for Kinect for its combat mode. The company also says that “there are many [PC] game companies that are trying to apply for this system.”

Questions abound concerning the announcement, including why GamePrix is divulging Kinect support when no other PC game company has, and does this mean an announcement about official Windows support for Kinect is coming sooner than later. Or is GamePrix just building support into its game and hoping that hackers take care of the rest? Maybe next month’s CES will provide a more definitive answer.

I'm yet to see a review without light conditions, distance from screen and training difficulties mentioned.

Maybe you can point us to such a review.

For a CoD title to support one. I will be buying one for my PC as soon as it is available.

It might be cool...

@Cylon Centurion 0005 ...but I wonder how they would implement it without a physical controller (you know, for the gun)? Same goes for the consoles for that matter.

Seems the game Divine Soul will include support for Kinect for its combat mode.

Cool! I can't wait for it.

And he was right given nothing else from the company but little upgrades. Not a good return for the US10 billion spent this year along on R&D. Only government roi is worst.

However when are we to get a review of this technology. It's been out long enough now for any failures to be known yet nothing on ZDNet;-)

Your replies in refernce to Microsoft appear to be filled with irritation, yet you profess to not use their products?

So I am at a loss as to understanding why news in refernce to Microsoft bothers you so deeply? It is not logical.

I'm very familiar with their technology

Which makes the disconnect between the talk and reality so obvious to all but the deluded MCSE.

Today's open mockery of MS is fun. You should join in with a review of the joke that is kinect - MS's contribution to gaming, something else that doesn't work;-)

So why does that irritate you so much

Because he's an ABM shill. That's why.

I understand, Richard Flude

Since the Kinect was the holiday season's best seller, and it works quite well from all accounts, by claiming it is a failure is an off-handed way of saying it does work very well, and that people are quite happy with it.

Why not just come right out and say that, since that is the case?

Microsoft makes more than 3 products
dazzlingd 27th Dec 2010
@Richard Flude
Seeing that Microsoft makes about 80 different product lines, then $10Bn R&D is about right.

It's not as if they invested all the R&D dollars on Kinect.

Failures?
statuskwo5 27th Dec 2010
@Richard Flude How about successes? Kinect has been selling like crazy this holiday season, which in turn has been selling Xboxes as well. Walk into any store and you will notice they are out of stock on either the Kinect, the 360, or both. Oh yeah, Kinect games have been selling like crazy too. I should know, I work in retail.

It is just a stupid gadget using old technology and with very limited usage. Sure, you can hack it to do a bunch of stupid things .... but in the end, it is just a bunch of stupid things.

Even the virtual sex game is just plain stupid without physical feedback (ie: touch) between the two+ parties. ..... Look mom!! I can make my avatar hump that other avatar (said the 20 year old virgin while multi-playing against a fat man playing as a female hooker).
@wackoae

That's quite some working vocabulary you've got there. Can you possibly say "stupid things" a few more times? Old technology? You know how much the first prototype cost? If it's so old, why are developers really enthusiastic about it?

it has Microsoft's name on it.
My guess is that he feel's it's "not fair" for MS to have a very well received, hottest selling item. when it should be Apple or some Linux based company that should be in the top of the news. wink

I'm confused
statuskwo5 27th Dec 2010
@wackoae Maybe you know something I don't, but last time I checked Kinect did NOT have any virtual sex games. Now if you are implying somebody will develop one for the PC once/if hackers can port it, then that's a different story. However, as of right now all Kinect games are family oriented and are selling like crazy to complement the sales of Kinect sensors.
.....it is inevitable for Kinect to be integrated in other platforms (desktop, tablets, smartphones, TV, etc.). Given enough time, Kinect will be smart enough to replace keyboards.

what a waste of time!
Linux Geek 27th Dec 2010
why would anybody waste time on proprietary useless gagets when FOSS offers so many opportunities?
Kinect will be an epic failure unless M$ gpleds the code and ports it to Linux.

I wish Linux was as big a failure...

Kinect - selling twice as fast as iPad and approaching 5M sold by end of year.

@dazzlingd Only a complete DUMB@SS would compare a touchpad to a video game add-on.

MORON.
@cyberslammer2
I was pointing out that Kinect is not a failure. Especially compared to the "hit" product of 2010.

Define failure? Oh yeah, 99% of your comments.

cyberslammer2, what's the difference?
John Zern 28th Dec 2010
touchpad, video game add-on, who cares?
They're both selling, and making profits for both.

I doubt adding machines at both companies care where the profits are coming from happy
@Linux Geek Seeing as how Linux has very small marketshare on desktop it would be a complete waste of time.
Wow! Good News!
Why jump aboard this sinking ship?
