In time for back-to-school shopping, Gateway has spruced up its laptop lineups with new stylings and the latest Intel and AMD processors.

The ID series (pictured above) looks to stand apart by offering a 14-inch display with edge-to-edge glass squeezed into the same dimensions as a 13.3-inch laptop. There are also two design options, which Gateway has creatively dubbed "Infinity Blue Liquid" and "Brushed Platinum." You also get a touchpad that's 20-percent larger than the one on previous versions.

The one configuration announced, the ID47H02u, includes an Intel Core i5?2410M Sandy Bridge processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, and integrated graphics for $699.99.

Those looking for a bigger notebook can turn to the NV series, which is based around a 15.6-inch display. Depending on the family, you get a choice of the latest Intel or AMD processors -- the NV57 series is Intel-based, while the NV55 series comes with AMD's new A-Series Llano processors. The NV55S05u features the AMD A8?3500M quad-core processor with Radeon HD 6620G graphics, 6GB of RAM, 640GB hard drive, and DVD burner for $629.99.

Both Gateway lines include an HDMI output and a USB 3.0 port, along with hot keys especially designed for social networking use. The company also claims that the new laptop batteries should last up to four years before losing their charging capabilities. The new ID and NV configurations are available starting today.
