Release date pushed back a month for AMD Bulldozer desktop processors

At the same time it is shipping out its first Bulldozer server chips (the 16-core Interlagos), AMD appears to be delaying its roll-out of Bulldozers for the desktop. Previously thought to be due in the next couple of weeks, the Bulldozer desktop chips, code-named Zambezi, have been pushed back at least another month, according to Fudzilla.

Though no official word has been given by AMD about release dates at all, there is speculation that delays may be related in part to tweaking to improve performance for the all-important launch reviews testing. There's also chatter about the company being able to initially produce enough chips to match demand.

While the wait will drag on for those ready to pounce on the new CPUs, the good news is that AMD is expanding the number of Zambezi offerings with which it will launch. There will now be four different eight-core FX processors, a six-core one, and a pair of quad-cores from which to choose, whenever Bulldozer ever does come to the desktop.
