Casio’s entry-level introduction of the day comes in the form of the pocket-sized Exilim EX-Z16, which promises simple shooting but great photos.

Don’t expect the world from this 12.1-megapixel ultra-compact camera, but it does have just enough to get you through the day. The EX-Z16 doesn’t require much work on the part of the photographer when using the Easy Mode interface, which only requires the user to adjust the image size, flash and self timer settings. The camera does everything else. That surely brings a new meaning to the term “point-and-shoot.”

Easy Mode is followed up by Best Mode, which automatically analyzes the frame surroundings and then applies exposure, autofocus and face detection settings accordingly. You’d wonder if this camera even required a human being to operate it.

Otherwise, the other need-to-know specs on the EX-Z16 include:

  • 2.7-inch LCD screen
  • 3x optical zoom
  • 4x digital zoom
  • CCD-shift image stabilization
  • VGA video recording mode in H.264 format
  • SD/SDHC card slot
  • YouTube capture mode

The EX-Z16 will be released at some point this month for $99.99.
